Practice Fusion has announced the launch of its Academic Program for Medical Universities, Students, and Residents. Practice Fusion’s Academic Program is uniquely geared toward future physicians who have a need to understand medical technology, along with residents who are actively seeing patients but are not able to afford traditional, expensive Electronic Medical Record solutions.

The government of Alberta Canada has announced that it will fund only five Electronic Medical Record systems for its doctors. In order to continue receiving financial incentives, many physicians will be required to migrate to solutions that have been approved by the government-backed Physician Office Systems Program (POSP). Practice Solutions, Med Access and Wolf Medical Systems were selected as vendors to be evaluated for usability and adherence to standards. Solutions from two other vendors, Epic and EMIS, have been selected by local hospital groups.

USC Care Medical Group has licensed Lawson Software’s Human Resource Management Suite, and the Lawson S3 Enterprise Financial Management, Supply Chain Management and Enterprise Performance Management Suites. The academic physicians group, known as the Doctors of USC, will use the unified Lawson system to support its organization-wide initiative to improve internal processes as it expands and enhances patient services. The contract was signed during Lawson’s fourth quarter of fiscal 2008, which ended May 31, 2008. USC Care Medical Group’s 400 academic physicians offer primary and acute care at six facilities on the Health Sciences Campus of the University of Southern California and in a number of clinics and hospitals throughout Southern California.

Wayport has announced a new agreement with HealthSouth Corporation, the nation’s largest provider of inpatient rehabilitation services, to provide public and private applications and services, including complimentary wireless Internet access at the company’s rehabilitation hospitals. Wayport enables public and private-side applications, services and devices on a single converged network and will offer the service throughout each hospital, including patient rooms, cafeterias, waiting rooms and other common areas. Twelve trial locations have already been installed and are operational today. HealthSouth currently operates 94 rehabilitation hospitals.

John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center has implemented Medsphere Systems Corporation’s OpenVista electronic health record (EHR) solution at the 41-bed long-term care facility and out-patient clinic in Fairmont, West Virginia. The implementation makes Manchin the seventh and final health care facility in West Virginia’s network of acute, long-term and ambulatory treatment centers to go live with OpenVista and establishes the final link in a nearly paperless and secure EHR system uniting all West Virginia state-owned health care facilities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will implement Pilgrim Software’s automated platform for document control, complaints, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) systems management throughout the Laboratory Response Network (LRN) under the Division of Bioterrorism Preparedness & Response. Pilgrim Software was selected as the provider of the LRN’s document management, complaints, and CAPA management software following a thorough six-month evaluation that included a detailed proof-of-concept of the various reputable providers of enterprise quality and compliance management solutions. Pilgrim's SmartCAPA™ solution is a web-based, closed-loop system that allows users to initiate an investigation, quickly resolve an issue, and prevent recurrence. SmartCAPA will be integrated with the CDC’s internal LRN Website where complaints and product deviations are currently recorded. The complaints captured on the LRN Website will funnel into the SmartCAPA solution where they will automatically be routed through a closed-loop Investigation and CAPA process for rapid follow-up and resolution.
