While Mr. Baum makes some excellent points [Where's the Demand for IT?
, Health-IT World, December 28, 2004] there is a fair amount of the cart being before the horse in his commentary. Anyone who believes that the current four-legged stool of patients, practitioners, facilities, and payors in health care is subject to the forces of a "free market economy" is deluded. And this is before any of the public regulatory overhead is layered on. more
