Recent advances in genotyping technologies have enabled analysis of over 600,000 SNPs across large sample sets which have allowed whole-genome disease-association studies. More recently, several studies have shown the prevalence of common copy number variants encompassing a large percentage of the human genome. Illumina has developed the Infinium whole-genome genotyping assay, which can be applied to the study of genome-wide copy number variants and other alterations such as homozygosity tracts and how they relate to human disease.
